The police are on a manhunt for a group of people who shot into a Bawku-bound bus on the outskirt of Walewale in the North East Region.
The incident, which occurred at the dawn of Friday, July 21, resulted in the killing of one and several persons being injured.
The attack is believed to be in connection with the ongoing chieftaincy-related conflict within the area.
A statement released by the Ghana Police Service a few hours after the incident said, “An intelligence operation is currently ongoing to get the perpetrators arrested”.
Coincidentally, IGP George Akuffo Dampare and his team were already on tour in the North East Region when the tragic incident occurred.
The tour, which commenced on Thursday, July 20, 2023, is part of the police service’s larger strategy to transform its operations and enhance its relationship with the public in the region.
As part of the tour, the IGP and his team have been engaging with local chiefs, opinion leaders, and community members to listen to their security concerns and develop community-specific security interventions.
Additionally, the tour has provided an opportunity for the IGP to meet with the police command and all personnel in the region, allowing him to gain firsthand insights into any welfare, operational, and administrative challenges faced by the police officers on the ground.
