Police officer and his family, including a four-month-old baby, burnt to death
A policeman with the Ashanti Regional Police Command and his family have been burnt to death in a fire that gutted the police barracks where they lived.
The incident occurred in the late hours of Sunday, January 15, 2023, at Apromase in the Ashanti Region.
Sergeant Owusu Asante Baafi, who was with the anti-armed robbery squad, his wife Yaa Achiaa, and their four-month-old baby died after they got trapped in the fire.
According to Ernest Akomeah, the Assembly Member for the Apromase/Asawase Electoral area who confirmed the news, they are awaiting the experts to reveal the cause of the fire.
“According to eyewitnesses, the fire swept through one of the rooms where the officer, his wife and daughter were.
“The police came in, but we are waiting for the experts to come in to tell us what exactly happened,” he said.
The bodies of the victims have since been deposited at the morgue.
Meanwhile, personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) and Ghana Police Service have visited the scene to begin investigations.
