Police Launch Traffitech-GH To Enhance Road Safety & Regulation Adherence
The Ghana Police Service has launched an innovative technology-driven automated system to elevate driver safety and enforce strict adherence to traffic regulations.
The system, known as ‘Traffitech-GH’, employs a network of cameras and sensors to capture images and videos of vehicles that flout road traffic laws.
Under this system, drivers will no longer face routine stops by police officers on highways. Instead, any violations and corresponding penalties will be communicated directly to drivers via Short Message Service (SMS).
This was revealed at a collaborative stakeholders’ engagement with key agencies such as the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD), National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), and the National Insurance Commission.
The Director-General of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department, COP Francis Ebenezer Doku, detailed the system’s functionalities and objectives.
COP Doku highlighted that the core principle of ‘Traffitech-GH’ revolves around automated fines strategically designed to augment deterrence and compliance on the roads.
He emphasized the pivotal role of this innovation in cultivating a culture of adherence to road laws and regulations.
“Traffitech-GH plays a vital role in upholding social order within communities, thereby fostering a high level of public trust in the police.
“It simultaneously encourages law-abiding behaviour, promotes compliance, and cooperation, while also significantly elevating the detection rate of road traffic offences,” COP Doku said.
