Police launch manhunt for seven jailbreakers in Nkwanta South

The Nkwanta South Divisional Police in the Oti Region has begun a search for seven fugitives who escaped from their cells on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.

According to information reaching The Ghana Report, the incident occurred around 10 pm on the said date after the suspects overpowered a female police officer who was locking up the cells.

Eight suspects, seven males and one female, fled the scene after they forcibly pushed the gate on the officer.

Another police officer who was on duty at the time also allegedly sustained some injuries and is undergoing treatment.

However, Danjumah Afu, the 20-year-old female suspect, was re-arrested.

Afu, before her re-arrest, allegedly drank some chemical bleach in an attempted suicide and has been sent to the Nkwanta South Municipal Hospital for treatment.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr Charles Dormaban, confirmed the incident without giving further details.

Meanwhile, he disclosed that a manhunt has since been mounted to re-arrest the seven suspects.
