Police kill one armed robber, hunts for 7 accomplices

In a robbery attack which seemed like a scene from a Hollywood action movie, police gunned down one suspect after a brief gun battle with eight assailants.

The incident happened in the early hours of Friday at about 02:30 am, when officers of the Police Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), of the Police Headquarters, responded to a distress call regarding a robbery at Ntuaso in the Eastern Region.

The CTU team on arrival at the scene noticed a group of armed men who opened fire on spotting the cops. The police officers armed with AK47’s responded, leading to the death of one of the suspected robbers, but the rest managed to escape.

Police retrieved from the scene items, including a pump-action gun, cartridges, smartphones, motorbikes, dagger, lighter and a Kia Rio with registration number GG 1380-15.

The body of the deceased was deposited at the Police Hospital morgue, and efforts are underway to arrest the rest.

A notice from the Ghana Police Service is, therefore, appealing to the public to be on the lookout and report any suspicious characters with gunshot wounds.

Health personnel, herbalists and residents living in and around Ntuaso and Nsawam are being encouraged to look out for persons with gunshot wounds and report the location of the injured to the nearest Police Station or call 18555 / 191 or 112.
