Police intercept narcotics, arrests five suspects in Upper West

The Ghana Police Service has successfully intercepted substantial amounts of suspected narcotic substances and apprehended several individuals following heightened operations in the Upper West Region.

As stated by the Upper West Regional Police Command, the operations conducted over the last four weeks focused on combating drug trafficking and abuse in various districts.

The police reported significant seizures in locations such as Eremon in the Lawra District, the Nadowli barrier and Loho in the Nadowli-Kaleo District, Charhe and Siriyiri in the Wa Municipality, as well as Hamile in the Lambussie District.

In total, the Command confiscated 218 compressed slabs, 54 parcels, and eight additional consignments of substances believed to be Indian hemp.

On April 3, 2026, a police patrol team stopped a taxi, a Toyota Corolla, at Eremon in the Lawra District, which led to the discovery of 140 compressed slabs of the suspected substance.

Two individuals, identified as Dennis Domoyel and Clovis Saame, were taken into custody.

In a different operation on April 1, 2026, officers at the Wa-Loho barrier seized 51 compressed slabs from a Royal VVIP bus en route from Wa to Jirapa. Three suspects, Stephen Lomotey, Solomon King, and Urilius Tobopalee, were also arrested.

The police indicated that the majority of the confiscated substances were being transported northward towards Hamile for distribution.

The suspects are presently undergoing various stages of investigation and prosecution, while the vehicles involved have been seized.

The Command has warned transport operators and unions against permitting their vehicles to be utilized for drug trafficking, cautioning that such vehicles may be confiscated by the state, along with the prosecution of their owners.

The police further reassured the public of their ongoing dedication to fighting drug-related offenses and ensuring safety throughout the region.
