Police Inspector Who Shot And Killed His Girlfriend Charged With Murder
A police officer, alleged to have shot his girlfriend in Kumasi, has been charged with murder.
The suspect, Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, was hauled before the Asokore Mampong District Court on Tuesday, April 25.
He has been remanded in police custody to reappear on Tuesday, May 30.
The facts before the court suggest that the suspect fired five shots at close range, killing 26-year-old Victoria Dapaa, also known as Maa Adwoa.
The victim, a mother of one, was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The mother of the deceased, who has been left distraught, said her daughter had received a call from the suspect and was seen talking to her before shooting her at close range.
“When she received the call, we told her not to step out. Her brother advised her not to go, but she refused. She said she would be back shortly. Now, look at what has happened. She never came back. Where is my daughter? Where is my daughter?” the mother of the victim broke down in tears.
The incident has sparked outrage among residents of Kumasi, with many calling for an end to these spousal murders and for stricter measures to be put in place to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
