Police Inspector jailed for life over girlfriend’s murder
The Kumasi High Court has sentenced Police Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, popularly known as “Taacum,” to life imprisonment after a seven-member jury found him guilty of murder by a 5–2 majority verdict.
Inspector Twumasi was convicted for the fatal shooting of his girlfriend, 26-year-old Victoria Dapaah, also known as Maadwoa, near her home at Adum, Kumasi, on April 20, 2023.
The incident sparked nationwide outrage and renewed public concern over gun violence and misconduct within the security services.
Although Twumasi initially confessed to the shooting, he claimed it was accidental.
He later changed his plea to not guilty, prompting a full trial before the jury.
After nearly three years of legal proceedings, Justice Rosemond Baah-Tosu delivered the final judgment on Friday, October 24, 2025.

Background
Victoria Dapaah, affectionately called Maa Adwoa, was allegedly shot and killed by her boyfriend, Police Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, on April 20, 2023, just a few metres from her residence at Adum, Kumasi.
During his first court appearance, Twumasi admitted to the shooting but insisted he did not intend to kill her.
Investigations by prosecutors revealed that the shooting followed a dispute over a GH¢5,000 debt.
According to the evidence, Inspector Twumasi had demanded repayment from Victoria, and when she failed to refund the money, he allegedly shot her, leading to her death.
