The Ghana Police Hospital has announced that it will soon organise a mass burial service for some 250 unidentified and unclaimed bodies.

This, the hospital said, is part of routine measures to decongest the hospital mortuary.

The hospital’s Public Affairs Director, Superintendant Yaw Nketia-Yeboah, in a statement, said the “dead bodies are made up of mostly paupers, unknown former patients, abandoned dead bodies, unidentified accident, and crime victims.”

Before the exercise, the police are urging the public to contact the Pathology Department of the hospital to identify persons who may not have been seen for some time.

Also, the hospital advised and encouraged people to keep their identity cards or that of any organisation on them to help the police and others to easily identify them whenever they are in any health crisis or involved in an accident.

Authorities at the hospital have for years been issuing warnings about mass burials if relatives of the dead in its morgue fail to come for them.
