Patrol officers from the Baatsonaa Division successfully foiled an armed robbery in the early hours of August 4 near the Klagon-Ashaiman underbridge, arresting one suspect after a dramatic chase.
According to a statement from the Ghana Police Service, the incident occurred around 3:20 a.m. when officers on patrol spotted four armed men on two motorbikes assaulting and robbing a man, identified as Reuben Ayiku.
The robbers made away with his mobile phone and a wallet containing an unspecified amount of money.
The officers immediately pursued the suspects and managed to intercept them at a location near Shalom Spot.
Three of the assailants fled, but one 23-year-old Francis Debrah refused to surrender and confronted the police with a long, sharp knife.
Officers were forced to open fire to disarm him.
Debrah sustained a gunshot wound to his left arm and was taken to the Police Hospital under guard for treatment.
Two Royal motorbikes believed to have been used in the robbery were recovered at the scene.
However, the stolen phone and wallet have not yet been found.
Police say investigations are ongoing, and a manhunt is underway to apprehend the remaining three suspects.
