Police drags 3 groups to court over planned protests

Three Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) have been dragged to court for refusing to postpone their planned demonstrations at the Jubilee House.

The groups, Democracy Hub, Patriotic Hub, and Patriotic Forum for Accountable Governance, sought permission for events between December 1, 2023, and January 5, 2023.

The Democracy Hub is calling for President Akufo-Addo’s resignation, Patriotic Hub is advocating for improved living conditions, and Patriotic Forum wants to express appreciation for Covid-19 resilience and economic recovery.

A statement from the police explained that the conflicting objectives and timeframes of the planned demonstration threaten public safety.

The police proposed rescheduling due to Christmas and New Year activities, but they refused forcing the matter to court.

The court is expected to hear the matter on November 21, 2023.

Below is a statement to that effect.
