The Police Council has reportedly recommended a two-year contract extension for Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno, ahead of his mandatory retirement in December 2025.

Sources say the recommendation has been submitted to President John Mahama for approval.

If approved, the extension would allow IGP Yohuno to continue leading the Ghana Police Service through ongoing reforms, modernisation efforts, and crucial national security operations.

IGP Yohuno was appointed by President Mahama, in consultation with the Council of State, on March 13, 2025, and sworn in the following day, succeeding Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

Before becoming IGP, he served as Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations from July 2024 under former President Nana Akufo-Addo.

The proposed extension aims to ensure leadership continuity as the police service advances key security strategies and personnel development initiatives.
