Authorities in Greater Accra have made a significant breakthrough in the fight against organised crime after a major human trafficking and cyber fraud syndicate was dismantled in Pokuase.
The operation, carried out on Thursday, February 12, 2026, involved the Ghana Police Service’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team, supported by Combat Teams and the Surveillance Unit.
A total of 22 suspects were arrested at a primary location in Pokuase-Afiaman, where police discovered a large-scale cyber fraud hub often referred to as a “Yahoo Boys” base.
Officers found the suspects actively working behind computer systems, facilitating international internet fraud when the raid took place.
Preliminary investigations revealed a structured hierarchy within the syndicate, including individuals tasked with enforcing control over trafficked persons.
The police believe the group is part of a sophisticated transnational criminal network involved in both human trafficking and cyber fraud, with some of the younger suspects suspected to have been coerced or subjected to forced labour.
A police situational report (SITREP) reviewed by Graphic Online confirmed that the operation was the result of careful intelligence gathering and coordination across specialised units.
Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer for the Criminal Investigation Department, highlighted the ongoing commitment to tackling organised crime.
Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to uncover the full extent of the syndicate’s operations and bring any additional perpetrators to account.
