Police in Gomoa Ojobi District have set ablaze four places known to be a base for smoking marijuana at Gomoa Akotsi and Ojobi in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
This was during a swoop at Gomoa Akotsi and Ojobi on Wednesday following a robbery attack on a Mobile Money (MoMo) vendor in the area.
The armed men shot the victim, Ebenezer Amanquandoh, in his shop at Gomoa Akotsi and bolted with GH¢30,000.
The incident happened on Tuesday around 9:00 pm at the Gomoa Akotsi Lorry Station moments after the vendor locked his shop and was about to set off to his house.
The unknown assailants, who were on a motorbike, first fired a warning shot and asked him to bring his bag.
Due to his refusal, one of the armed robbers, with a pump action gun, shot his left thigh while the other hit his head with a sharp object.
Police then embarked on a special operation to arrest suspects they believed were involved in the robbery, which led the police to the “wee base”.
Three suspects: Ampreh Twum, 26, Fredrick Kwarteng, 24, and Sammy, have been arrested in connection with the robbery.
Nine other suspects were also arrested during the swoop on Wednesday.
About 15 youths who were smoking substances believed to be Indian hemp fled when the police stormed the place to effect the arrest.
Some bushes on the outskirts of these two communities, which were used as a “wee base” for these marijuana smokers, were torched by the police.
Police are on a manhunt for the suspected marijuana smokers.
