Police arrest two men for torturing boy in viral video

The Ghana Police Service has rescued a 12-year-old boy who was subjected to horrific torture, captured in a viral video that has sparked widespread outrage.

The alarming footage depicted the boy tied with a nylon rope and hanging from a rooftop as he was brutally assaulted by two men.

This incident reportedly took place in the New Ankasa community, near Elubo in the Western Region.

According to the Half Assini Divisional Police Command, the attack occurred because the boy was accused of stealing GH₵200.

The suspects, identified as 58-year-old Issah Morro and 27-year-old Suleman Abdul Rashid, were apprehended shortly after the video circulated online.

Both men are currently in police custody and are cooperating with ongoing investigations.

The victim has since received necessary medical attention and has been reunited with his father. Authorities also confirmed he is in a stable condition.

The police, in a statement signed by the Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service in the Western Region, Superintendent Olivia E.T. Adiku, emphasised the commitment of the Service to the safety of all individuals, particularly children, stating that they will pursue justice in this matter.

“We urge members of the public to desist from all acts of vigilante justice. The appropriate response to suspected wrongdoing is to report to the nearest police station,” she said.
