Police arrest three over murder at Gbiniyiri

The Ghana Police Service has arrested three suspects in connection with a murder at Gbiniyiri in the Savannah Region.

According to a press release issued by the Regional Police Headquarters in Damongo on March 16, 2026, the arrests were carried out by the Inspector-General of Police’s (IGP) Special Intelligence Team in collaboration with the Savannah Regional Police Command.

The suspects, identified as Yaw Bamuah, Yaw Bokaa and Kuma Simpor, were apprehended on March 14, 2026.

Police say the trio is believed to be connected to violent incidents in the Gbiniyiri community that resulted in the death of one person and injuries to others.

During police interrogation, Yaw Bamuah reportedly admitted his involvement in the attack and disclosed the names of several alleged accomplices.

These include Anuda Borour, Pobiye, Bitunor Sansa and James Sanyuah, who are currently on the run. Police say efforts are underway to track down and arrest the remaining suspects.

The suspect further revealed that the attack was carried out as retaliation following the killing of a relative. According to the suspect, the relative was believed to have been attacked by armed robbers suspected to be Fulani.

Following the confession, the suspect led police officers to his residence in Gbiniyiri, where a single-barrel shotgun with serial number BAT 2598-88 and two live AAA cartridges were retrieved from a concealed location within the compound.

Meanwhile, the three suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.

Authorities say they will soon be put before the court while efforts continue to apprehend the other individuals linked to the incident.
