Police arrest ‘Sir Obama’ in illegal weapons crackdown

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of Daniel Adomako, popularly known as Sir Obama Pokuase, as part of a broader effort to clamp down on illegal arms possession across the country.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday, August 13, by ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs, the arrest forms part of ongoing intelligence-led operations involving multiple security agencies.

These efforts are focused on dismantling networks linked to the unlawful acquisition and public display of high-powered weapons.

Police say Obama Pokuase is currently assisting in investigations related to images and videos he shared on social media. The visuals allegedly show individuals brandishing sophisticated firearms without lawful authority.

“These operations, which have been ongoing for several weeks, have led to the retrieval of a significant number of illegal arms and ammunition,” the police confirmed in their statement.

In a related case, three other individuals, Prince Ofori, Yayra Abiwu, and Emmanuel Kwakye, are also in custody.

They are being questioned in connection with threats of death and the circulation of false information following a recent helicopter crash incident.

The police have reassured the public of their commitment to public safety and say they remain focused on removing illegal weapons from communities.

“We urge the public to continue providing credible information to assist us in these crucial operations. Further updates will be provided as investigations progress,” ACP Ansah-Akrofi said.

The statement explained that all arrests and investigations are being handled in accordance with due process and legal standards.
