The Ghana Police Service has arrested five suspects in connection with the brutal assault on Michael Quayson, a teacher at Kade Senior High Technical School in the Kwaebibirim Municipality.
The suspects were picked up on Monday, January 5, 2026, after they reportedly travelled from Accra to Kade as part of ongoing investigations.
Their arrest follows weeks of pressure from teacher unions and community members who demanded justice for the attacked educator.
Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Awoonor Yevu Godwin, confirmed the development and said the suspects are expected to appear before the Kade Circuit Court on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.
“This is a step in the right direction, and we hope it sends a clear message that attacks on teachers will not be tolerated,” he said.
Michael Quayson was attacked on the night of October 5, 2025, while returning home after work. According to his family, he was ambushed near his residence by a group of about eight people, some of whom were said to be current and former students of the school.
He sustained serious injuries before relatives rushed to the scene, forcing the attackers to flee.
A video of the assault later circulated on social media, sparking national outrage.
Reports suggest the attack may have been linked to Quayson’s firm disciplinary approach and his role during the recent WASSCE examinations.
Teacher unions and the Quayson family continue to call on authorities to strengthen protection for educators, warning that fear and violence have no place in Ghana’s schools.
