Police arrest five carjackers; retrieve seven stolen cars
Police in Accra have apprehended five suspected carjackers with caution to commercial taxi drivers to be wary.
The law enforcement officers also recovered seven cars that the suspects had snatched that at multiple locations in Accra.
The police explained that the modus operandi of the car-snatchers were different. However, they noticed a common trend of “one or two members of the syndicate hiring the services of a taxicab to a particular destination”.
“Midway through the journey, other accomplices board the vehicle and snatch it at gunpoint,” a press statement by Public Affairs Director of the Accra Command, Effia Tenge, noted in a statement.
She said the suspects would be arraigned, and listed the following tips to help curtail such crimes:
-Beware of juicy offers, especially at night.
-Reject services to outlandish areas.
-Seek police assistance at snap checkpoints on least suspicion.
-If possible, use auto-mobile tracking devices.
