The Ghana Police Service’s Special Operation Team has arrested a 28-year-old man, Mohammed Alhassan, for allegedly possessing narcotic drugs without lawful authority in Tamale.
The arrest was carried out on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at Kpalsi, a suburb of Tamale, according to a statement signed by the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Alhassan Luckman Niendow.
Chief Inspector Niendow stated that during the operation, officers retrieved 98 parcels of compressed dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.
The arrest followed a distress call from the Tamale Taskforce, which had earlier arrested another suspect identified as Hashim in possession of the substances.
During questioning, Hashim reportedly mentioned Mohammed Alhassan as being connected to the drugs, leading to Alhassan’s arrest. He was later handed over to the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (DLEU) for further investigation.
Preliminary investigations, according to the police, suggest that Hashim was the individual in control of the narcotics. However, he is currently on the run.
“Strenuous efforts are underway to locate and arrest suspect Hashim, who is currently at large, to assist with ongoing investigations,” Chief Inspector Niendow said.
He added that Mohammed Alhassan is expected to be arraigned before court on Monday, December 29, 2025, to face charges of possessing narcotic drugs without lawful authority.
