The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has apprehended 101 individuals during a series of focused operations conducted as part of its Christmas Special Operations throughout the region.
The apprehensions occurred at identified crime-prone areas such as Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Nungua, Adabraka, Achimota, East Legon, and the Railways enclave, following intelligence-driven patrols and stop-and-search activities by police personnel.
As stated by the Police Command, the special operation is part of nationwide security initiatives implemented during the festive season to deter crime, ensure public safety, and uphold law and order as residents come together for Christmas and year-end celebrations.
The Christmas Special Operations are carried out annually by the Ghana Police Service, generally involving heightened day and night patrols, snap checkpoints, raids on known hideouts, and collaboration with other security agencies.
This initiative aims to prevent armed robbery, drug trafficking, assault, and other criminal activities that tend to increase during festive times.
Police sources have reported that the suspects were arrested for various offenses, including possession of narcotic substances, robbery-related activities, unlawful assembly, and other suspected criminal behaviors.
Items seized during the operations are currently undergoing examination as investigations progress.
The Command emphasized that the operations were intentionally concentrated on busy commercial centers and high-traffic locations where criminal activities are more likely to take place during the holiday season.
All suspects are presently in police custody, assisting with investigations, and will be processed in accordance with the law.
The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its dedication to continuing the Christmas Special Operations throughout the festive season and into the New Year, urging the public to remain alert and cooperate with law enforcement to help maintain community safety.
