President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has commissioned 75 greenhouses and an entrepreneurship and Innovation Centre at Dawhenya in the country’s capital, Accra.
It was constructed by the Ministry of Business Development and the National Entrepreneurship and Innovations Plan.
“This is the biggest green village estate in Ghana, and, indeed in West Africa. This will help present agriculture as a decent venture from which Ghanaian youth can earn a livelihood,” President Akufo-Addo said at the commissioning on Thursday.
The president said the 75 greenhouses can produce 4,500 tonnes of tomatoes annually, bringing in a yearly revenue of some GH¢11 million.
He added that the facility can also employ a total of 230 people.
“Already, vegetables from the farm are being sold at Shoprite, Farmers Market, Eden Tree, amongst others,” he indicated.
President Akufo-Addo also mentioned that the greenhouse initiative is an integral part of the Planting for Food and Jobs programme.
