Photos: Law students demonstrate over mass failure
Close to thousand law students are currently demonstrating over how law education is handled in Ghana.
According to them, the recent ‘mass failure’ of prospective students during the law school entrance exam is believed to be the latest attempt to limit the number of professional lawyers in the country.
The demonstrators are demanding reforms in the country’s legal education system.
The demonstration dubbed ‘OpenUpLegalEducation’, is expected to end with the protesters marching to the Jubilee House to present a petition to President Akufo-Addo.
Out of 1,820 candidates who sat for this year’s Law entrance exams, only 128 students passed.
Some of the inscriptions on the placards held at the demonstration read; “Law school is not for a particular family”, ‘CJ you are not God’, ‘CJ office, GLC is transient’, ‘Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely’, ‘Open Legal Education now, we cannot wait any longer’.
