Photos: Ghana, Mauritius move towards the implementation of Smart City Project

A Ghanaian delegation led by the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah is currently in talks with Mauritian government officials to review progress towards the establishment of the Smart City Project in Ghana.

Smart City is an urban development focused on improving the quality of life of city dwellers by making the city more attractive, adaptable, efficient and resilient to change, using new technologies that rely on an ecosystem of objects and services.

The meeting was held on Wednesday, October, 16 at the on-going 2019 IMF/World Bank meeting in the United States of America.

The Ministry of Information in a facebook post indicated that timelines have been given to ensure the implementation of the project begins next year.

The Smart City project when implemented, will include the construction of a Science and Innovation Park at the University of Ghana as well as the construction of a Cyber-City at Dawa in the Greater Accra region.

It will also include facilities such as Exhibition Centres, Data Centres, Auditorium, Wi-Fi Parks, Offices, a hotel, an innovation tower, a cyber-tower,  apartment blocks  and a conference centre among others.

The project when fully launched is expected to create 15, 000 direct and indirect jobs.

The Mauritians delegation was led by Dev Manraj Gosk, Financial Secretary, Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning.
