Photos: Empty streets in Accra as residents observe two-week lockdown
Monday marks the first day of a two-weeks partial lockdown of Accra, Tema, Kumasi and Kasoa.
The lockdown as announced by President Nana Akufo-Addo in his address to the nation on Friday is Ghana’s most drastic measure to fight the novel coronavirus pandemic.
During the two-weeks, the government ordered the populace in the affected areas to leave their homes only in search of essential items such as food, medicine and water.
Also banned is the inter-city movement of vehicles and aircraft for private or commercial purposes.
Only vehicles and aircrafts providing essential services and those carrying cargo will be permitted to move in and out of the region.
Theghanareport.com took to the principal streets of Accra’s Central Business District to observe how the public is adhering to the order.
The usual hustle and bustle and its accompanying gridlock was gone, giving way to a quietness that is rare.
A few traders were in town, selling mainly foodstuff including vegetables, fish, rice and oil.
