Petty traders at the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange enclave in Accra have threatened to stage a naked demonstration over selling the lands where their shops are located.

The chairperson of the traders’ group, Maame Serwaa, said the Municipal Chief Executive(MCE) of Klottey-Korle Mr Nii Adjei Tawiah sold their lands to transport unions while turning investors away from developing the place.

She made the accusations while addressing the media at an event to mark the second anniversary of a fire that ransacked the Odawna Pedestrian Shopping Mall.

The market was razed to the ground.

According to the traders, attempts to get investors to rebuild the market have proved futile due to the parochial interest of the MCE.

“We were here when the assembly asked us to allow the drivers to operate temporarily as the assembly prepares to redevelop the land, but our evidence indicates they have sold the land.

“That is why the MCE is secretly turning away investors from reconstructing the market for us,” Maame Serwaa lamented.

She, therefore, gave the government a two-week ultimatum to start the reconstruction of the market, or the women would embark on a naked demonstration.

Meanwhile, the MCE of Klottey- Korley Nii Adjei Tawiah has refuted claims by the traders stressing that the assembly is undertaking steps to construct a modern market for the traders.

He said the assembly had engaged several investors to redevelop the land while stressing that a technical team would soon return from Turkey to start the market construction.

Mr Tawiah entreated the traders to keep trusting the government as plans were far advanced to give the traders a modern market.
