Petrol, LPG to rise slightly; Diesel drops from August 16

Fuel prices at the pump are expected to see marginal changes, with petrol and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) set to increase slightly, while diesel prices are projected to decline starting August 16, 2025.

According to the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC), this adjustment is based on its latest pricing outlook report, which guides the pricing decisions of Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) across the country.

The report indicates that petrol prices may rise by between 0.39 percent and 2.71 percent per litre.

LPG is also expected to see an increase of up to 2.34 percent per kilogram. In contrast, diesel prices are likely to fall by about 0.72 percent per litre.

COMAC attributes this mixed outlook to a slight depreciation of the Ghanaian cedi against the US dollar.

The exchange rate moved from GHC 10.68 to GHC 10.77, representing a 0.8 percent decline.

This shift, combined with fluctuating prices on the international crude oil market, has influenced the upcoming adjustments.

While diesel prices fell sharply on the global market to 5.22, petrol and LPG recorded modest increases of 1.89 percent and 2.87 percent, respectively.

These changes are believed to reflect product-specific supply and demand dynamics.

Some industry players have also pointed to the recent one-cedi levy on petroleum products as a contributing factor to the expected increases, particularly for petrol and LPG.

Despite the upcoming changes, COMAC has expressed optimism that fuel prices will remain relatively stable during the next pricing window, which begins in September 2025.
