Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, Minister-designate for Labour, Jobs, and Employment, has proposed a review of the Labour Act 615 to reflect modern job trends.

The Labour Minister-designate outlined this proposal during his vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament on January 30, 2025.

His response followed a question posed to him by Patrick Yaw Boamah, a member of the Appointments Committee, who asked the nominee about the gaps to fill in the Labour Act 615.

In response, Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo emphasised that the current labour force is driven by technology; therefore, there is a need to change to satisfying latest job demands.

“Mr. Chairman, the Labour Act is the overall definition of our labour. These issues he [Patrick Boamah] mentioned are not gaps in that Act. What it is, is our inability to implement it fully, the directive, the legal instruments found in that Act, but I understand that because of changing effects of labour workplace reforms because of issues about technology coming into our work life etc, there is the need to look at it again and see how we can review it to commensurate with present changes and effects,” he noted.

The Labour Minister-designate has also pledged to address the challenges in the labour sector with a collabourative, and thoughtful approach if approved by Parliament.
