Patriotic Andre Ayew doesn’t deserve bad treatment – Ex-Ghana midfielder

Former Ghana midfielder Kenneth Sarpong has expressed his disappointment over Andre Ayew’s recent exclusion from the Black Stars.

He believes that a patriotic player like Ayew should not be treated poorly. Ayew has been absent from the Black Stars since June, missing both the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

He was recently left out of the double-header against Sudan, during which Ghana managed to secure only one point from a goalless draw at the Accra Sports Stadium and then suffered a 2-0 defeat at the Benina Martyrs Stadium in Libya.

As a result, the Black Stars are at risk of failing to qualify for CAF’s biggest tournament for the first time since 2004.

Speaking to Kessben FM, Sarpong criticized how Ayew, as captain of the Black Stars, is being treated. “A patriotic player like Andre Ayew does not deserve bad treatment,” he stated.

“Having Andre Ayew on the bench will not create issues within the Black Stars camp. His presence in the team would provide extra motivation. He knows how to inspire players when the going gets tough. It would be better to have him back in the team.”

Ayew is eager to return to the Black Stars after recently securing a move to Le Havre and becoming an active player.

The Black Stars will be back in action in November, facing Niger and Angola in the final round of the AFCON 2025 qualifiers.
