Floods have caused damage to some parts of Tarkwa in the Western Region after the Bonsa River burst its banks.

This follows three days of continuous rainfall in the area over the weekend.

The floods have severed Tarkwa’s connection with some areas, leading to significant traffic congestion within the town.

The rising waters have partly swallowed buildings while some residents have also been compelled to abandon their cars and other properties.

Meanwhile, local authorities have been mobilized to respond to the crisis, coordinating efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected residents.

This comes a week after some parts of Ghana were flooded following torrential rains on Wednesday, June 21, 2023.

Unfortunately, flooding in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, claimed the lives of four residents.

The deceased were residents of Atafoa, Sepaase, and Tafo.

Another incident at Peace Town, a suburb of Ngleshie Amanfro in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, left several residents stranded and two persons dead.

Workers, students and other residents had to spend the night with relatives and friends outside their homes because they could not wade through the dreadful floods.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMA) has urged the Ghanaian populace to implement the necessary measures as there will be more rain in the coming weeks.

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) also issued a vital advisory, urging individuals to avoid traversing floodwaters in their quest to reach their destinations.

The Ashanti Regional Director of NADMO, Frank Duodu, stressed the importance of prioritizing personal safety during torrential downpours.

He implored the public to heed the warnings the Ghana Meteorological Agency issued, particularly during the rainy season, and to act accordingly.
