Parliament’s Defence Committee inspects GAF recruitment at El Wak

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), William Agyapong, together with members of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, led by James Agalga, has visited the El Wak Stadium to monitor the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise, which resumed on Thursday, November 20.

Their visit comes after the exercise was temporarily suspended following a tragic stampede at the same venue on Wednesday, November 12.

The incident claimed the lives of six female applicants and left several others injured.

The monitoring team is expected to tour the various centres designated for screening, physical measurements, and eligibility checks.

Officials say the process now appears more organised and controlled compared to the situation before the suspension.

As part of new safety measures, chairs have been provided along the screening lanes so applicants can sit while waiting.

This adjustment was one of the key recommendations made after the tragedy.

During the visit, officers were seen guiding applicants through biometric verification, document checks, and body selection tests.

The exercise continued smoothly under strict supervision from senior military personnel.

Recruitment in the Greater Accra Region resumed on November 20, 2025, after President John Dramani Mahama directed the GAF to pause the process to review safety protocols and restructure the screening system to prevent future overcrowding and chaos.
