When news of John Kumah’s death reached the House, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin asked that the House take a 10-minute break.
Initially intended to last about 10 minutes, the break was extended to about 30 minutes.
When the Speaker and other legislators returned to the House to resume the sitting, most legislators, obviously devastated about the news, could not continue the debate.
Before the news, Parliament was expected to continue the debate on President Akufo-Addo’s State of the Nation Address.
However, when a legislator stood up to contribute to the debate, he requested that the House be adjourned because the MPs were not in the right frame to debate.
Subsequently, Speaker Bagbin adjourned the proceedings to Friday, March 8.
The death of John Kumah has shocked many Ghanaians. Some people who had the privilege to meet Mr Kumah before his death had only praises for him.
Others who have seen his work as an MP and a Deputy Finance Minister are sad Ghana has lost a young politician while a few are in denial.
