The Parliament of Ghana has approved three ministerial nominees following their vetting on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
They are Ahmed Ibrahim, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, and Agnes Naa Momo Lartey.
The three are Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs; Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry; and Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection; respectively.
They were approved by parliament on Thursday, January 23, pending swearing-in by the president.
Second Deputy Speaker, Andrew Asiamah Amoako, who chaired proceedings, announced the approval of the ministers after a unanimous ‘AYES’ from MPs from both sides.
“It’s obvious the ‘AYES’ have it. The motion is hereby carried, and this House has adopted the motion on His Excellency the President’s nomination of Honourable Governs Kwame Agbodza as minister-designate for Ministry of Roads and Highways, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu as minister-designate for the Ministry of Education, and Honourable Eric Opoku as minister-designate for the Ministry of Food and Agriculture,” the Second Deputy Speaker declared.
This followed the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin’s request to suspend the House due to the inadequate number of legislators.
He, however, withdrew his request.
