The Public Accounts Committee(PAC) has referred management of the Ghana School of Law (GLS) to the Attorney General (AG) for prosecution due to alleged procurement breaches.
The Auditor General’s current report reveals that the Law School procured various goods and services without obtaining the necessary approval from its board.
Furthermore, the organization was accused of bypassing the sole-source procurement process.
These infractions in the procurement processes triggered PAC to refer the case to the Attorney General (AG).
The Member of Parliament for Tano North, Freda Prempeh, during the proceedings of the Public Accounts Committee sitting, on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, said, “The Auditors noticed that payments for the procurement of various goods and services, they did not obtain approval from the board, neither did they go through the three different sources”.
The General Legal Council’s Acting Chief Accountant, Yusuf Osman, acknowledged the procurement process breach at the Ghana Law School.
“The suppliers were registered suppliers of Ghana School of Law, we had regularly engaged them in a number of transactions, at which point we complied with all the relevant procedures. Except in this instance, those additional invoices at the time of auditing were not attached to those transactions… We admit,” he said.
Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee(PAC) James Klutse Avedzi also noted that the management of the school will be recommended for prosecution.
“You are at fault, you have flouted the law, you have admitted and so, we will recommend you for prosecution,” he stressed.
