The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament has ordered the immediate arrest of the Northern Regional Director and Accountant of the National Sports Authority (NSA) for refusing to appear before the committee.
During Monday’s sitting, the Chairman of PAC, Dr James Klutse Avedzi directed the Minister of Sports, Mustapha Ussif to ensure that the two were arrested as soon as possible.
This comes after the Director-General of the NSA, Prof. Dr. Peter Twumasi told the committee that an official letter was sent to the Regional Director in Tamale inviting her to appear before the committee.
However, he said the director refused to show up for the meeting.
The Regional Director and Regional Accountant reportedly paid some GH¢160,000 that is supposed to go into the consolidated fund account of the authority into their internally generated fund at the Tamale office.
This was contained in an audit report by the Auditor General released in 2023.
Dr James Klutse Avedzi who described the Tamale office as “rotten” promptly instructed the Minister to get them arrested.
“The Regional Director and the Accountant should be picked by the police. They should be picked up immediately. You are invited to appear before parliament and you refuse to come knowing that you have squandered over GH¢160,000.
“And you think that we will leave you scot-free?” Dr Avedzi said.
