A day that began with cheers and medals has ended in pain and uncertainty in the Krachi East Municipality after a vehicle transporting students from an inter-circuit sports tournament was involved in a serious crash.
The accident occurred along the stretch between Tokuroano and Dormabin as the students were returning from games held at Adokwanta.
Witnesses say the vehicle, reportedly carrying dozens of young athletes, veered off the road and crashed with force.
Several students were thrown from the vehicle, leaving bystanders horrified.
As of Saturday evening, nearly 50 students had been hospitalised across the Oti Region.
Due to the scale of the emergency, victims were distributed among multiple health facilities to prevent overwhelming one centre.
The most critical cases were taken to Worawora Government Hospital for specialist care.
Others with fractures and deep cuts were admitted to Dormabin Health Centre, while Tokuroano Health Facility served as an initial stabilisation point for those with less severe injuries.
Parents who had earlier gathered at Adokwanta to support their children are now moving between hospital wards, anxiously seeking updates.
Medical staff at Worawora confirm that several students remain in unstable condition.
