Over 18.7m Ghanaians expected to vote on December 7 – EC

The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially announced that a total of 18,774,159 registered voters are eligible to general elections scheduled for December 7, 2024.

This figure includes all citizens who have registered under the biometric voter system, as well as special voters like security personnel and election officials, and individuals whose biometric data could not be captured.

In a statement issued on Monday, November 11, the Deputy Chairman of Operations, Samuel Tettey, provided a breakdown of the voter statistics.

He emphasized that the EC has taken comprehensive measures to ensure that all eligible voters are included on the electoral roll, thereby facilitating a smooth and transparent voting process.

This announcement comes as part of the EC’s preparations to conduct a credible and orderly election, ensuring that all 18.7 million registered voters have the opportunity to exercise their right to vote on election day.

The EC’s commitment to transparency and accuracy in voter registration aims to uphold the integrity of the electoral process, especially as the nation gears up for a highly anticipated election season.

Providing a breakdown, Mr. Tettey highlighted that 18,640,811 voters have biometric data, while special voters number 131,478.

Additionally, there are 1,870 voters on the roll without biometric data.

This year’s roll reflects an increase of 1,746,518 voters compared to the 2020 election when the total number of registered voters was 17,027,641.
