More than 150 people, mostly young men, have been arrested in a joint police and military operation carried out early Wednesday morning in the Ahafo Region.

The coordinated exercise took place in Kenyasi in the Asutifi North District and Hwediem in the Asutifi South District.

Security sources say the suspects have been transported to the Police Headquarters in Accra for further questioning and investigation.

Although details about the operation remain limited, it follows recent tensions in the area after the NAIMOS–Bronikrom clash, which involved violent confrontations between anti-illegal mining officers and some unidentified youth.

Residents in both districts reported that heavily armed police and military officers conducted dawn raids, searching homes and screening individuals.

Authorities have not yet issued an official statement, but local officials indicate that the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to maintain peace and stability in the Ahafo Region.
