Over 1,100kg of cocaine, 90kg of cannabis seized in June 2025 – Interior Minister

Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak has announced that a total of 1,192 kilograms of cocaine, 90 kilograms of cannabis, and 17.9 kilograms of gold bars were intercepted at key entry and exit points across the country as of June 2025.

The seizures, carried out by the Narcotics Control Commission, took place at four major locations: Tema Port, Kotoka International Airport, the Paga Border, and Oyarifa.

According to the Minister, these operations are part of broader efforts to crack down on drug trafficking and the illegal export of natural resources.

Speaking on Monday, July 14, Muntaka Mubarak stated: “The Narcotics Control Commission has intensified its fight against drug trafficking and is working actively to protect public health and national security. As of June 2025, the Commission successfully seized 1,192 kilograms of cocaine, 90 kilograms of cannabis, and 17.9 kilograms of gold bars from major trafficking hubs”.

While the Minister did not disclose details regarding arrests or ongoing investigations, he confirmed that the government is strengthening border security to prevent future smuggling activities.

In addition to the border seizures, the Narcotics Control Commission has conducted seven targeted swoops in areas including Akosombo, Takoradi, and Madina, leading to a significant reduction in the street-level availability of illicit drugs.

Minister Mubarak reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing law enforcement capacity and strengthening institutions to safeguard public health and national security.
