Otumfuo sets 3-member committee to probe Kotoko
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has constituted a three-member team to investigate the operations of Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC following a $240,000 FIFA fine.
The committee is chaired by Professor Lydia Nkansah, Dean of the Faculty of Law at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). The other members are Kofi Owusu, Registrar-Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs and Lawrence Bruce Kyei, a private legal practitioner.
A statement issued on Wednesday, which was signed by Kofi Badu, Chief of Staff at the Manhyia Palace, noted that the team “have been given four weeks to submit their report”.
This follows a tussle between Kotoko and Tunisia-based club Esperance over the transfer of striker Emmanuel Clottey, drawing sanctions and a fine from FIFA.
The club has fallen below the standards they set in the 2000s.
Kotoko was third on the Ghana Premier League table, a point behind Berekum Chelsea and three points shy of league leaders Aduana Stars FC before the league was suspended due to the coronavirus plague.
It has been six years since Kotoko won the league and the last major trophy of the club was the FA Cup in 2017.
The report will determine the fate of club chairman Dr Kwame Kyei and the current administration of the club.
