Otumfuo Donates 5 Million Dollars Towards KATH Renovation

The hospital which lies at the summit of structures providing humanitarian support to residents of Kumasi and people from all walks of life, was clearly a backwater in the series of positive changes introduced to Asanteman (Ashanti Kingdom) the past 25 years until the dynamic Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, weighed into the picture once again.

His Majesty, the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has donated a colossal amount of money towards the renovation of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, KATH in Kumasi, Ghana. The given five million dollars translates to 660 billion old Ghana cedis.

This has been described as leadership by a sterling example. The quantum of support represents a huge leap in the efforts to turn around the gloomy circumstances of the hospital. For a very long time, the decaying infrastructure at the medical facility had passed unnoticed, or swept under the carpet, until the King in whose traditional territory the facility is located, raised the alarm about the unbefitting situation.

This was quickly followed by a mobilization of all Ashanti citizens both in Ghana and in the diaspora as well as friends of the traditional area to make contributions toward the renovation of the hospital (KATH). As part of the effort to get things underway, the Asantehene set foot in the hospital to inspect the disheartening conditions, and he immediately called all Ashantis to action.
