The overlord of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has reportedly destooled the Chief of Kwaso, Nana Nketia Boampong II.
The destoolment of Nana Nketia was ordered by the Otumfuo during a sitting at the Kumasi Traditional Council in Manhyia Palace on Thursday, 8th June 2023.
The Kwasohene was summoned before Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for allegedly taking bribes from one Yaw Gyimah, a royal who expressed interest to contest the vacant Dikro stool of the Worakese community in Ejisu municipality.
Nana Nketia Boampong II is said to have demanded an amount of GHC3 billion to assist him to ascend to the throne.
Desperate Yaw Gyimah managed to pay GHc1.5 billion, however, Nana Nketia Boampong II failed to honour his side of the deal.
When he was called before the Council, Nana Nketia Boampong II initially denied the allegations but later pleaded guilty to bribery following an intense interrogation.
He is also alleged to have committed other offensive conducts against traditions, at variance with the Asante great oath he took.
Angry Otumfuo immediately ordered his removal as Chief of Kwaso.
The destoolment of the Kwasohene comes a few days after the destoolment of the Chief of Antoa, Nana Kwame Owusu Agyeman who was the host of the Asante dreaded deity (Antoa Nyamaa shrine).
Nana Kwame Owusu Agyeman, who has been on the stool for over 20 years, was accused of violating customary procedures by instating his nephew to take over from him while he lives.
Other offenses include the multiple sales of land.
