Otumfuo commends Osei-Mensah for uplifting image of Ashanti Region

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has commended the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, for uplifting the image of the region through major infrastructure projects since his appointment as the minister.

“Since you were appointed, you lived with us in harmony. He wasn’t forgetful of himself. He remained humble, even though he was given power. We pray he will continue in his humility. I always admire how he always came to visit with his entourage and they all helped him perform better.

“Today, he has come to account to us his stewardship. Even though his time is almost up, we plead that he continues the good works till the end. When his tenure is finally over, we as traditional leaders will find a way to appreciate his effort in the region,” Otumfuo Osei Tutu II stated.

Simon Osei Mensah was first appointed as the Ashanti regional Minister in 2017 by President Akufo-Addo during his first term in office.

In 2021, he was reappointed as the Minister for the region by President Akufo-Addo to serve a second term in office, making him the first-ever regional minister in recent history to serve for two terms in the region.

As his term inches closer to an end, many inhabitants have criticised his performance as one of the worst in terms of infrastructure development, blaming his government for contributing to the economic crisis of the country.

As he prepares to leave office soon, the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs invited him to highlight
the level of infrastructure development under his almost 8 years of leadership.

As part of the projects listed, the regional minister boasted of initiating the construction of some 1178 educational projects with over 900 commissioned, the construction of 74 security service stations and 28 courts with 21 commissioned.
