Otto Addo is not competent to qualify Ghana for 2026 World Cup – GOC boss Ben Nunoo Mensah
President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Ben Nunoo Mensah beleives Otto Addo is not competent enough to qualify the Black Stars for the 2026 World Cup.
Addo, 47, has come under intense pressure for failing to qualify the senior national team for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament scheduled be to hosted in Morocco next year.
Under the guidance of the former Borussia Dortmund talent coach, the Black Stars finished at the bottom of Group F and recorded three draws and three draws and finished the qualifiers with just three points.
The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after a marathon meeting with Addo last week to review his technical reports is yet to decide on his future despite widespread calls for his dismissal.
Reacting to the performance of the Black Stars under Otto Addo, who signed a three-year deal in March earlier this year, Mr Nunoo Mensah, who has been recently honoured with the title of Nɔyaa Mantsɛ (Development Chief) of the Ga State in recognition of his outstanding contributions to sports and national development said the former Ghana international is not competent to qualify the team to the Mundial which is scheduled to be hosted in USA, Canada and Mexico after failing to secure AFCON qualification.
“I have not been convinced about Otto Addo’s coaching prowess, especially against Niger,” he told Asempa FM.
“In crucial games, the matches are being won by the coaches and judging by the games we have played in the AFCON and what I expected from him, I don’t think he is competently good enough to qualify Ghana for the 2026 World Cup,” he added.
Ghana, who sit 2nd in Group I will resume their global showpiece qualifiers with games against Chad and Madagascar in March 2025.
