OSP seizes over GH¢100m in assets in NPA scandal
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has announced the seizure and freezing of assets valued at more than GH¢100 million and over US$100,000 in connection with the ongoing investigations into the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) scandal.
According to the OSP, investigators are actively tracing additional assets suspected to be connected to financial crimes.
The Office said the actions are backed by strong evidence, including banking and transaction records, that link the seized properties to alleged criminal conduct.
“The Office of the Special Prosecutor has already seized and frozen assets valued at more than GH¢100 million and over US$100,000, with additional assets under active tracing.
“These actions are based on strong documentary, banking, and transaction evidence linking the proceeds to the alleged offences,” the OSP stated on X.
The case, which the OSP describes as “serious and substantial,” involves former NPA Chief Executive Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid and nine others.
They face multiple charges, including extortion, abuse of public office, and money laundering involving more than GH¢291 million and over US$332,000.
The accused persons are alleged to have extorted money from bulk oil transporters and oil marketing companies under the guise of official duties.
In court on Monday, October 20, proceedings were adjourned due to the judge’s absence, with the case expected to resume on Thursday, November 13.
Dr. Abdul-Hamid recently dismissed the case in a video as “useless,” but the OSP insists the prosecution is based on credible evidence and remains a priority for the State.
