OSP invites DVLA boss over alleged GH¢4m bribe attempt
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has summoned the Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, to respond to allegations concerning a bribery attempt.
This invitation follows Mr. Kotey’s assertion that he publicly declined a GH¢4 million bribe that was purportedly offered to halt the implementation of the new Digitalised Vehicle Registration Plate (DP) policy.
In a recent media interview, Mr. Kotey disclosed that certain influential individuals attempted to persuade him to abandon the initiative aimed at reducing vehicle-related fraud and improving road safety.
In reaction, the OSP has confirmed its intention to gather additional information from the DVLA chief to substantiate the allegation and to identify those allegedly involved in the bribery attempt.
Additionally, in an unrelated case, the OSP has initiated an investigation into a current member of the Council of State concerning suspected corruption and corruption-related offences associated with gold trading.
Sources affiliated with the OSP suggest that the investigation is centred on allegations that the Council member may have exploited his position to influence the issuance of a gold licence to a company in which he reportedly has undisclosed business interests.
