Organised labour has suspended its nationwide industrial action over the controversial sale of Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) hotels.
The group called on members to return to work after a crunch meeting on Monday, July 15, 2024.
The nationwide strike was in protest of the plan to offload 60 per cent of SSNIT shares in four hotels to Rock City Hotel, a firm owned by Minister of Agriculture Bryan Acheampong.
Dr Yaw Baah, Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress, disclosed that the decision to call off the strike comes after SSNIT, in a letter dated July 12, 2024, informed them that it had terminated the intended sale of its stake in the hotels to the Abetifi MP.
He added that the union had agreed to call off the strike and requested all workers to resume work effective Tuesday, July 16, 2024.
The union has also given SSNIT a one-month ultimatum to engage with them to address all outstanding issues related to pension management.
The union further pledged to “advise themselves” if SSNIT fails to meet their demand.
Subsequently, Dr Baah expressed profound “gratitude to all the working people of Ghana and all organised labour groups for their support” during the strike.
