The 18-year-old O’Reilly SHS student accused of killing his colleague has been remanded in police custody.

The suspect, whose name has only been given as Godwin, was hauled before the La District Court on Thursday, September 5.

He has since been charged with murder and is to reappear on September 19, 2024, for further proceedings.

The suspect reportedly stabbed 18-year-old Edward Borketey Sackey, a final-year Visual Arts student to death following an argument.

The incident happened on Monday, September 2, 2024, after they sat for an examination.

The altercation reportedly began as a heated exchange over who was wealthier, escalating into a physical fight.

According to a cousin of the deceased, who is also a student at the school, the fight initially seemed trivial.

“He had a paper in the morning and came to me that he was done with his paper. A few minutes later we heard some noise at the back and we asked what was wrong and they said it was Godwin and Edward fighting. I asked what’s the fight about and they said it was nothing serious.

“The whole thing was about, ‘you, what do you have? I have this and that, you’re lying’. That was what brought the fight. So, I thought the whole thing was nothing.

“A few minutes later, the Godwin guy came up to me and asked me to warn my brother or else his blood will flow and I told him it has not gotten to that,” she narrated.

She added that Edward sought help from some teachers in the school when the fight escalated but they ignored him.

This, she said prompted her to seek help from an uncle whose shop was outside the school.

However, upon her return, Godwin had stabbed her cousin.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has initiated an administrative investigation into the stabbing incident.
