Oppong Memorial student murder: Police arrest fourth suspect

Police in Bekwai in the Ashanti Region have arrested another suspect in the alleged murder of the final year student of Oppong Memorial Senior High School (OMESS).

Ramsey Okyere, 17, a first-year student of Jacobu Senior High School (SHS), was arrested Thursday evening by the police in Kokofu.

Chief Inspector Anthony Agyei says police arrested the fourth suspect after a tip-off that he had returned from school.

“The new development is that yesterday (Thursday) in the evening, our informants alerted us that the fourth accused person by name Ramsey Okyere was in town, Kokofu, he returned from school, so we swiftly moved in and got him arrested”.

His arrest brings to four, the total number of suspects arrested by police in connection with the murder of Richard Appiah.

The deceased, 19, was a final year student of Oppong Memorial Senior High School. The police say they are yet to conduct a post-mortem on the deceased.

Meanwhile, the Bekwai Juvenile Court has remanded into Ahwiaa Juvenile Cells the four suspects. They are expected to reappear before the court on 1 October 2021.

The court presided over by His Lordship Joseph Akuko asked the police to hasten investigations into the matter.
