Open letter to Ministers of Road, Finance: Accra/Kumasi road needs urgent repair
The neglect of the main and arguably the most important trunk road from Accra to Kumasi and to the middle belt and Northern Ghana is worrying and of concern to many users.
The road, about 255km, received major rehabilitation during the Presidency of Mr John Agyekum Kufuor, and later the completion of the dual carriageway from Nsawam to Kibi Junction (Apedwa) recently.
The road is currently deplorable and full of potholes in various sections. The situation has resulted in many accidents, leading to the loss of life and damage to vehicles.
For instance, the Apedwa portion needs an urgent overlay of asphalt. The use of the road by neighbouring countries such as Burkina Faso and Mali has exacerbated the situation.
The government has taken bold steps to create bypasses around the major towns to reduce the traffic and commuting time but we cannot afford to lose more lives, waste fuel, time and energy. A stitch in time saves nine.
Please, get contractors on the road and let us overlay the bad portions with asphalt, repair dangerous potholes and let us enjoy riding on the road again.
Recent efforts have not changed the situation. Do it for drivers, passengers, inhabitants and the citizenry and for posterity. It reflects badly on the government.
